Grey Sage had always wanted to own a homestead and be a real part of the great rangeland but, discouraged with the lonely struggle, he drifted to the annual Stampede at Arapahoe and overnight found himself a champion bronc rider . Many times in the months that followed, Grey thought of the parting advice of an old rancher: “Don’t ever steal, whether it’s a man’s critters or his wife . . . and don’t come back until you’ve shown the whole world that they grow men with guts out in the prairie country.” Sage’s journey will take him to the Cross Anchor dude ranch where the actions of jealous people will threaten to destroy his life.
